Excitement bubbled in my heart as I packed my bags for camp.
This was my fourth year to volunteer at Central Arkansas Youth Camp, and I was eager to engage this year’s theme, “My Story”. Like you, each of the 172 campers this year has a story to tell. On July 10-15, beauty shone brightly as these children began to see their stories in the context of a bigger narrative. We displayed that Jesus is the true Hero of our story. Through the cross, He has made all things new and has redeemed the brokenness in this world. We overcome the villain, Satan, “by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of [our] testimony” (Revelation 12:11).
We experienced how Jesus is in the middle of our stories. Because of Him, we can courageously share in the midst of our struggles, encouraging each other and proclaiming our hope in our Savior, Jesus Christ.
During my cabin’s nightly devotions, the girls shared their stories. They were real and painful, but as we reflected on each day’s services, we discovered we are not alone. As we turn our eyes to the cross, we can view tragedy through the veil of hope. Satan does not win. Light will always dispel darkness!
